Exterior wall cleaning system (BMU)
Roof of main building northeast elevation is designed to use a double track gondola. The track of window cleaning machine is reserved on the elevation of main building. And the biggest glass panel has a dimension of 1.6X5.53(m). Maximum weight of each glass panel does not exceed 950KG.
Dimension of each unit panel at overhang soffit of curtain wall is no more than 1.5X3.00(m), and for weight no more than 400KG. There are two workers responsible for construction and erection of glass panel respectively with 250KG load.

Diagrid movement
Structure movement is the key point in the whole project design and construction. The influences of structure movement on curtain wall include: the installation pre-adjusted value of primary structure can influent the relative movement of diagrid and bring about the difference between incipient installation form and design of cruciform of diagrid, at the same time can induce movement of connection between the H-shape steel and slab.
Architecture specialists from Jangho Company and Tsinghua University tackled the key problems together, and constituted scientific and reasonable solution to ensure the curtain wall panel kept in vertical under static forces during and after the construction.

Tower overhang glass soffit
The Tower overhang glass soffit of CCTV new site is the most difficult curtain wall project in today’s world.
The soffit is 161m from the ground, and is suspended over the roof of the overhang between two towers, which adopts the replaceable system. The curtain wall has the biggest unit panel of 3.00X1.50(m), and each of them weights no more than 400KG. During the installation, the soffit is erected by using the façade maintenance system.

Large size diamond steel diagrid
CCTV main building is shaped with “diamond diagrids” with both regular and particular characteristics. “Diamond diagrid” is not only the decorative appearance of the building, but also the base of curtain wall. The movement of unit panel in the “diamond daigrid” is accumulated at the edge of each “diamond diagrid”, and at last is accommodated by diamond channel steel.

The design scheme of new site of China Central Television Station curtain wall is an innovation aimed to overthrow the traditional curtain wall design, which also is a new construction technology span and breakthrough. After satisfying the request of resisting 6.75KP wind load, surviving in stronger earthquake and anti-exploding, the thickness of the curtain wall is still less than 113.6mm. The high-difficult space setting-out technology, exact configuration change analysis technology and advanced machining and manufacture technics in construction process embody the highest level of China curtain wall technology.

Long-span overhang unit components bearing high wind pressure
The unit curtain walls in this project have many long-span overhang components. The maximum length of the horizontal overhang is up to 1.25m, and the length of the vertical overhang is 0.4m. The maximum design wind pressure on these components is 8.4kN/m2(about 850kgf/square meter). In the design of the whole unit system, the influences of these overhang components on the system structure and performances are taken into full consideration. The connection parts between the components and units and inside the unit panels adopt reinforced connection method which is quite different from the usual unit curtain wall, thus guaranteeing that the additional torque and bending moment caused by the overhang components on the unit components do not influence the structure stress and physical performance.

The separation-type design between the unit panels and the overhang components
The connection between the unit panels and the overhang components adopts the method of insert-connection and stress bearing by aluminum alloy material and bolt positioning, and these two parts are processed into two whole components respectively in the plant, and transported to the site, where they are assembled together on the site, ready for installation.
This method could effectively guarantee the quality of installation, and is also beneficial for the protection of finished products and avoiding large-scale on-the-site gondola in construction. Meanwhile, it also improves the transportation efficiency of curtain wall products, and sufficiently ensures the project progress and meets the requirement in dismountable design.

Steel structure and roof covering of large-span ellipsoid Bubble
The major axis of the space hyperboloid ellipsoid Bubble is 35 meters, and the minor axis is 25 meters, with no main body structure inside. Considering various, constant and live loads, Bubble steel structure could bear the load of 2.5kN/m2(about 250 kgf/square meter). The design and construction should take into major consideration a series of issues, such as distortion of the space structure, dimension positioning, installation, and so on. This roofing system adopts the two-layer roofing method, with the internal layer of vertical sidewall undercut roofing system to guarantee the performance requirements of water-proof and sound insulation; the outer layer could adopt the sliding-type hyperboloid aluminum plate system to satisfy the building effect and meet the requirement on roofing distortion. By using Micro station, CAD as well as other software, the steel structure and roofing system could have space positioning, and the three-dimensional coordinates could be given to every point; and by adopting the space integration method, the elliptical steel structure could be installed in the construction order from the center to the surrounding areas, so as to control the steel structure against installation distortion.

Large-span canopy

The overhang of the canopy in this project has a maximum length of over 15 meters, and there is no main body structure at the root of the canopy, instead it is directly connected with the elevation curtain wall. The design and construction are conducted by considering the canopy and the bottom curtain wall as a whole body. Accurate calculations are made so as to strictly control the distortion of the canopy components, particularly the distortion at the key points of the root part of the canopy. At the connection part, between the curtain wall and the canopy, the large size movable connection is adopted to fully guarantee the sealing performance of this port.

China World Trade Center Phase III is invested by China International Trade Centre Company Ltd. with a total of 800 million dollars. The third stage of China International Trade Center will combine with the first and second stage to form a building group of 1.10 million square meters which is one of the largest international trade centers in the world. At the same time, with the height of 330 meters, the third stage of China International Trade Center is the highest building in the capital. The third stage of China International Trade Center will be one of the top 10 buildings in the new century.

According to national standard GB/T15227-94 and related American specifications and standards, the curtain wall units have passed strict testing: 11 testing programs including air tightness, static and dynamic pressure rain leakance, wind pressure deformation, plane deformation and BMU, all of which have achieved and exceeded the criterions required by engineering testing.

The curtain wall system of China World Trade Center Phase III is applied in China for the first time, which is applicable for high-rise building. It is the revolutionary innovation and breakthrough of Chinese curtain wall technology that change the equal pressure principle to single barrier waterproof.

The unit joint of curtain wall transom doesn’t use equal-pressure cavity design, and the single barrier waterproof design won’t leak under the 1800Pa testing pressure.
The curtain wall unit system of China world trade center phase III is basically different from most curtain wall unit system designs in the country. It uses single waterproof seal structure design so that it can solve the waterproof seal problem in traditional unit system. The stitching part of mullion and flashing channel matches together with the stitching part of frame sill, and form a continuous and closed sealing boundary, so even if a litter water penetrates through the waterproof barrier, it can be collected by the catch basin at the back of flashing channel and drain into front cavity of curtain wall pocket, and finally drain outside of the building.

Super large glass fin can withstand 2270Pa wind pressure at the height of 330m without being damaged, when damaged in accident, it can be changed.
The curtain wall vertical of China world trade center phase III is installed with “wave shape” ultra-white rubber-laminated glass fin with gradually deepening color glaze strip from up to down. The overhanging size of the glass fin is 400mm to 600mm, and the typical crosswind pressure of glass fin is up to 2270Pa; the maximum crosswind pressure of glass fin in the tower crown is up to 2270Pa, and the area of glass fin is more than 27000 square meters. Analyzed with ANSYS calculation software, the structure design can ensure the stress on the glass fin homogeneously transferred to the aluminium frame so that it minimizes the possibility of damage and enables it to be changed from outside when damaged.

Elliptic external shape of building
The whole project is composed of two elliptic buildings, the elliptic shape of which is realized through the turning of various panel units. Due to the curve characteristics of the elliptic building, each unit has different angles, and after optimized integration, 9 sets of column moulds could make all angles a reality, and make them shared by other accessories connected with the column, so as to position the moulds, reduce process difficulty and guarantee the quality of construction.

GATEWAY Curtain Wall Project is a symbol of high-quality curtain wall both in design and construction, representing the advanced technology level in the current international curtain wall circle, high quality processing, manufacturing technique and construction level. The whole project is designed totally according to the international standard design (mainly the criterion of the US and Britain), and designed and constructed in line with the international construction process.

The aluminum alloy shutter of round pipe shape in accessory building
The accessory building of this project is parking lots, with the external elevation adopting the aluminum alloy shutter of round pipe shape. The individual aluminum alloy shutter are interconnected and form individual unit bodies, and they are also insert-connected on the site, thus ultimately forming integrated aluminum alloy shutter curtain wall of round pipe shape. This special material is quite unique and used for the first time.
